SUMMARY

Reproductive disturbances, resulting in delayed conception and intercalving period are a serious drain on resources of farmers. ALOES COMPOUND Ft MYRON 2 Alarsin Ayurvedic research products were tried in 26 imported cross bred cows, 21 cross bred heifers and 30 local buffaloes, if various reproductive disturbances, both pathological and non-pathological.

INTRODUCTION

Milk production in India is largely organized on industrial grounds. Milk cattle are kept by farmers, even by small and marginal agricultural labourers.  Due to prevailing socio economic conditions, they are usually unawar of various physiological and pathological conditions leading to infertility.

In Maharashtra, interest in dairy husbandry is picking up because of assured remunerative prices without discriminating cow and buffalo milk. There has been a search in keeping cross bred cows as against the traditional practice of keeping buffaloes for milk production. Particularly in Kolhapur District, there has been large scale importation of cross bred cows, purchased at and around Bangalore.

Details of pedigree record or past clinical records are rarely available either with the owner who sells the cow or the farmers who purchases the same. Most of the purchases have been made through Bank finances

Reproductive disturbances due to pathogenic conditions resulting in delayed conception and long intercalving period proved as serious drain on the resources of farmers. Usual line of treatment for such cases is with local applications of lugol, and antibiotics. But results are rather low and not definite and treatment is a long drawn affair. An attempt was therefore made to treat such types of cases with Myron and Aloes Compound

MATERIALS AND METHODS

A total of 26 imported cross bred cows, 21 cross bred heifers and 30 local buffaloes were presented for treatment at the Veterinery Poly Clinic, Kolhapur, with complaints of repeat breeding, de layed post partum heats etc. The details of the animals are as under

ALOES COMPOUND

The drug is backed with a number of clinical and pharmacological trials in laboratory animals and human beings        The drug is indicated to induce regular Menstrual/ovulatory cycles. It is non-hormonal Ayurvedic combination which in addition to above action is also having haematinic, liver corrective, nerve soothing and mild laxative actions without harmful side effects. It is also stated to be useful to reduce obesity. Aloes Compound was chosen for trial in nonpathogenic, suboestrus and irregular oestrous in cows and buffaloes and in heifers who suffered from environmental conditions and substandard feeding.

MYRON:

This drug is claimed to be very useful in treatment of non-specific leucorrhoea, and specific leucorrhoea due to cervicitis, endometritis, cervical erosious, moniial and Trichomonas infections in human beings in a number of trials It is said to have uterine antiseptic, ecbolic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties and useful as haematinic and general tonic also.

Aloes Compound was selected for treatment of non pathogenic condition such as suboestrus, anoestrus, and atonic reproductive tract. Each case was treated with 5 tablcts a day over a period of one to two oestrus cycles (20 to 48 days). The animals were inseminated when the first oestrus was exhibited and detected. The treatment was continued for another three weeks when only weak and silent heats were noticed. A course of 10 tablets daily over a period of 10 days was used, (however there was some incidence of post oestrus bleeding, particularly in heifers; and hence dose was reduced to 5 tablets a day for three weeks in such cases) .

Myron was used in pathogenic conditions at lie rate of 10 tablets a day ovcr a period upto 20 days or until the oestrual discharge became normal. Subsequently these cases were treated with 5 tablets of Myron and 5 tablets of Aloes Compound over a period of 20 days to stimulate reproductive tract and ensure ovulation and conception.

RESULTS

Out of 21 cross bred heifers all conceived. Out of 26 cross bred cows, 22 conceived within the expected time and remaining 4 conceived subsequently. Out of 30 buffaloes, 17 out of 22 followed up, conceived. Remaining eight could not be followed-up due to change of ownership.

DISCUSSION :

It was noticed that use of Aloes Compound following results :

i)                    Tones up the uterus.

ii)                  Ensures oe3trus at regular intervals of 18 to 22 days,

iii)                 Increases the chances of fertilization of ovum

iv)                Ensures pronounced heat symptoms thereby reduces difficulties in detecting weak and silent heat particularly in buffaloes

v)                 Reduces puberty age and maturity in heifers. It was noticed that treated heifers exhibited their first oestrus at the end of the treatment period,

Similarly Myron was useful in the treatment of resistant & Chronic pathological condition of resistant  and cronic pathological condition of infectious origin and was found to be useful in cleaning & toning up the uterus and thereby ensuring the regular heat and conception.
